How would you like the Class in the future? Is there anything to change and improve?

Many agree that a reform in governance and communication should be done.

There is nothing against the current Commodore and some other Board members. I believe they agree, at least in part, with the need for a reform. It is also clear that there is a group of people who is against any change and who tries to maintain their position.

Here are some points, which we will deepen in detail in future articles. I hope we can open a constructive discussion with you, SnipeTonight readers.

  • Transparency in the Board’s decision making in different areas (rule changes, choice of the venues for the major events, election of the officers, budget and financial statement)
  • Transparency on the Board meetings (agenda, summary of the discussion)
  • Approval of a procurement policy for the choice of goods, services, contractors and employees
  • Reform of the SCIRA Officers election system

I hope that the next Board of Governors (or the majority of the Board) has the strength and courage to listen at the members and make these (or some of) these changes.

Good night, and good luck

One response to “The Shape of SCIRA to Come”

  1. I have been a member of the class since the 70s. At that time there were something like 17 board members, the meetings were held every two years at the Worlds, communication was by snail mail…

Later the fax was introduced and communication became much easier; then the number of board members was reduced and decisions were made faster. The monthly Bulletin always reported the discussions and decisions of the rare meetings.

Nowadays, free and easy to use applications allow frequent, usually monthly, meetings of the Board, National Secretaries and Committees.

Many topics are discussed during these meetings, from the day-to-day management of the class to future plans, from the application of the rules to the development of the class.

This is what I would like to read on the official Snipe pages: not who said what, but a report of what was discussed, the decisions taken, where the class is planning to be in the next few years… this is now missing.
