Dear Snipe Sailors,
Today we celebrate … 28 days of SnipeTonight!
In less than 1 month, we had 10,500 viewers, from 45 different countries.
- 26 regattas covered
- 76 articles published
Step by step the audience is growing.
A brief look back, because SnipeTonight did not come out of nowhere, but has an illustrious and popular predecessor: SnipeToday. I feel a bit nostalgic writing this little piece of greetings without the help and support of Carol Cronin, SnipeToday co-editor.
But you know the story: on November 4, Carol and I finished to work for SnipeToday after 13 years. On the original SnipeToday the main focus were the sailors and the discussions among the sailors (good discussions, change of opinions and point of views). It has been an hard work, with the help of many, that has required time, perseverance and passion: almost 8,000 articles were published on the website, 5,680 published as SnipeToday Editor, 290 with my own signature. 684 weekly newsletters “SnipeToday Digest” were sent. More than 6,600 follower on FB and 3,500 on Instagram.
Since January 2022, SnipeToday has merged with the official Class website and therefore the Class has become the owner. In recent years, especially in the last year, it has not bee easy to continue the work started in 2011, maintaining integrity and independence. I can say: The rise and fall of SnipeToday: now even the name of the SnipeToday FB and Instagram pages have been changed by the executive body.
Looking forward, the Class needs to rejuvenate itself in terms of governance and orient itself towards the future.
There are great expectations for 2025.
SnipeTonight will try to tell you what is happening in the Class, hosting opinions and comments on what can and must be improved and changed. Some countries and fleets are already on the right track!
We range from technical articles, rules change proposals, to interviews with Board members and sailors.
We will not be afraid to criticize and reveal embarrassing background stories. We already have many friends and supporters and a few isolated enemies.
We want to tell you the activities of the fleets and let you know about local regattas, and promotional initiatives. We also encourage you to send us your opinions and point of view, on any topic. Our goal is to promote the Snipe Class.
As Editor, I would like to thank those who encouraged this project both implicitly and explicitly (I hope they don’t end up in someone’s blacklist): Marinella, Arianna, Augie, Jose Carlos, Kathleen, Antonio, Cesar, Stefano, Pepe, Alejandro, Alessandro, Enrico, Daniela, Fabio, Paola, Damian, Maria Elena, Ezio, Yuka, Antonia, Andrea, Jacopo, Gioele, Ernesto, Zibi and many others.
And of course thanks to you readers!
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas, and see you on the water in 2025!
